Bezvremenska priča o neuzvraćenoj ljubavi koja isprepliće komediju, tragediju i prekrasnu poeziju. Ovaj malo poznati dragulj bio je prvi Shakespeareov veliki bestseler još 1593. godine te donosi smjelu priču o božici Veneri i njezinoj opsesiji zgodnim, ali čednim Adonisom.

U maski Johna Blowa iz 1683. godine božica Venera zaljubljuje se u zgodnog smrtnika Adonisa. Nagovara ga da krene u lov, iako on želi ostati uz nju. Kada u lovu zadobije smrtonosne rane, Venera je osuđena oplakivati ga u vječnost.

Ali, tko je zapravo napisao libreto za našu večerašnju operu? Donosimo li izvedbom osim same opere i priču o ženi koja je, da bi bila saslušana, morala ostati skrivena. Vraćamo li i mi ovom izvedbom glas njegovoj vlasnici?

In John Blow’s 1683 “masque”, the goddess Venus falls in love with the handsome mortal Adonis. She urges him to go on the hunt against his desire to stay with her. When he is fatally wounded, Venus must mourn for eternity.
But, who actually wrote the libretto for tonight’s opera? Are we presenting not only the opera itself, but also the story of a woman who, in order to be heard, had to remain hidden? And with this performance, are we, too, restoring her voice to its rightful owner?
